Mum & Me

Dad & Me/ Mum & Me classes are a great opportunity for the parents to get involved with their child’s dance activities. These classes do not require the parent to have previous dance training.  The Parent/Guardian plays an integral part in class by providing comfort and modelling participation. This class offers an introduction of valuable skills such as listening, taking turns, standing in line, following directions and sequential order. It also offers an environment for children to developmentally grow, both individually and socially in a dance class setting. Additionally, activities will explore gross motor skill development and rhythm activities. This class is a pre-introduction to dance and is a great class to help transition your children into a dance class on their own.

Pre-School Dance

These classes offer the first step towards your child learning dance instruction on their own, amongst their peers. This is a beginner class that will explore the basic skills in Ballet and Jazz with age appropriate music. Combining fun with structure, our minis will participate in fundamental motor skill activities to begin the development of balance, posture, muscle strength, coordination, rhythm, differentiation of left and right and spatial reasoning.

Our combination Ballet & Jazz classes are wonderful for the dancer who is just starting out! This is a great way to get 2 styles of dance in 90 minutes.  Students learn the basics of Ballet, Jazz and Creative Movement.  If your dancer is in Kindergarten through to year 4 this is great class to attend.

Acrobatic Dance, or acro as it is commonly referred to, is the beautiful fusion of classic dance technique and the precision and athleticism of acrobatic elements. Often defined by unique choreography, acro dancers seamlessly blend musicality, emotional expression, line and extension with acrobatic movements in a dance context. At RDC, we follow the Acrobatic Arts Syllabus which contains skills from gymnastics blended with steps and movement from modern dance. The Acrobatic Arts Program is designed to teach students a complete understanding of the five divisions:  Flexibility, Strength, Balancing, Limbering and Tumbling.

Ballet is the base for all structured dance disciplines.  Ballet demands grace and precision.  Ballet technique employs formalised steps and gestures creating intricate, flowing patterns used to create expression through movement.  Discipline, alignment, agility, posture, balance and grace are fundamentals taught from the beginner to advanced Ballet Levels.

Jazz is a very fun, high energy and stylised form of dance.  At RDC dancers will learn the basic movement, kicks, leaps and turns that have been derived through the many years of the development of jazz.  Dancers will also tap into their sassy side and be encouraged to use their funky attitudes from within.  While finding themselves engulfed in the fast paced movement of jazz, students are encouraged and taught to hold and move through their core ballet technique.  Stretching and strengthening are a big part of the jazz class.  Isolation of each body part and stage presence are also taught.  Dancers are rewarded for taking risks in their movement and we love to see them smile and come out of their shell.

Contemporary / Lyrical

Contemporary is an expressive dance form with a free, artistic and creative feel. Contemporary draws a lot of its technique from classical ballet but unlike ballet, contemporary often focuses on floor work and dancers will usually perform with bare feet. Principles of contemporary dance include centering, alignment, gravity, contraction, release and suspension.

Hip Hop

Our Hip Hop classes are high-energy and encourage students to step outside the box by bringing their own personality and style to the movements. Students will learn the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking as well developing their stamina, coordination and musicality.  Hip Hop is a fun street style of dance that incorporates today’s music.

Kick Leaps & Turns

This class will focus on strengthening, stretching and progressive movement across the floor.  Lyrical movement and technique will play a huge role in this class. Students will go over the finer details and skills required for kicks, leaps and pirouettes.
